Andrea & Matthew’s wedding at RCYC

This was an extra special wedding for me. Not just because Andrea is one of my closest friends (although this was a pretty epic reason), but because I had the dual responsibility of being a bridesmaid AND a photographer. Crazy right?!?! This next-to-impossible task came about after Andrea told me how sad she was that I couldn’t be a bridesmaid. You see, she just didn’t trust anyone else to do her photos!!! Well, “a wedding is what you make it” I told her. “Nothing is set in stone. Why can’t I do both?!?” I most certainly wanted to be involved in all of the planning that goes into the events; the shower, the bachelorette, and of course the wedding! So it was settled. I was going to shoot the wedding in my bridesmaid gown and sparkly shoes. :P

It was a LONG day. Andrea wanted to pad in as much time as possible to make sure that nothing ran late, and to make sure that there was adequate time for all of the photos. This meant arriving on the Island at 7am for hair and make-up! To everyone’s surprise, we STILL felt rushed and didn’t have nearly as much time as we’d wanted to shoot all of her AMAZING details, or explore the clubhouse or island to do fun couples/bridal party photos.

The weather didn’t help either! We’d JUST finished shooting the first look when we started to feel a light drizzle. No big deal, we pressed on and managed to get through an extensive family shot list and a few formal bridal party shots when the torrential downpour began. The outdoor ceremony was scheduled to take place in the back rose garden, and had already been set with chairs, flowers, and programs. There was a mad dash of vendors and clubhouse staff scampering to bring everything inside to safety. In addition, RCYC members were also using the clubhouse for shelter, so it was difficult to continue our couples session through all of the commotion! We managed to shoot some incredibly romantic “notebook” images on the veranda, while avoiding the puddles forming on the ground from the heavy winds. :P

Despite it being “plan B”, the new ceremony location was GORGEOUS, up on the second floor veranda. I walked down the aisle first, and to the guests surprise, “tagged out” my second shooter, grabbed my camera and started shooting. :) “That bridesmaid is EVERYWHERE” I overhead a few guests say. Yup, that’s how I roll. :) We really were everywhere that day! :)

The rain subsided after the ceremony, and we managed to use a bit of the cocktail hour to do a few more outdoor couples shots. (Sorry Matt, I know you would have preferred to be mingling with your guests!). My photography team of Graham and Haydn took the reins for much of the reception, so that I was able to enjoy my dinner as a bridesmaid, and they did an incredible job! :)

I am soooooo glad to finally be able to share this stunning and heartfelt wedding. It was such a pleasure meeting/working with everyone involved, including Andrea and Matt’s friends, family, and all of the other vendors, everyone came together to make this event truely unforgettable! :)

It was featured in Wedluxe on Valentines day, the icing on the cake! :) Check it out!
